CORTELLAZZO AND PORTO

Cortellazzo Medium

THE FISHING VILLAGE

Cortellazzo rises on the point where the Cavetta canal enters the Piave river, near its mouth. The territory of Cortellazzo, in fact, extends as far as the sea (Jesolo Pineta) and, in part, on the left bank of the Piave river (mostly in the municipality of Eraclea) including part of the Laguna del Mort, a site of Community interest and, according to Legambiente, one of the eleven most beautiful beaches in Italy. It represents a vestige of the ancient coastal cordon that, since the beginning of the first millennium, separated the Venetian Lagoon (which then extended from the Poall’Isonzo) from the Adriatic Sea.

Cortellazzo is famous for its seafood festivals, evening markets, and the feast of the “Cuoco in Piazza” with fish-based food stands where every restaurant in Cortellazzo takes to the square to prepare typical dishes. The stands are set up on the floodplain, at the mouth of the Piave river.
